Free Crochet Master Class: Baby Dragon

This free crochet master class will guide you through creating a cute baby dragon with a scarf, crocheted in the amigurumi technique. The dragons belong to the “Baby Series” and are small, soft, and full of charm 🐉

The belly and wings are crocheted in turned rows, and the cheeks are lightly shaded with pastel or blush. Each dragon requires 3–4 yarn colors.

Finished size: approximately 11 cm (4.3 in).

  • Color 41 Mint Green (body)
  • Lilac (wings, spikes)
  • Color 65 Exotic
  • Color 06 Red (scarf)
  • Hook: 1.9 mm
  • Safety eyes: 5 mm
  • Toy stuffing (polyester fiberfill)
  • Stitch markers
  • Pins
  • Dry pastel or blush (for cheeks)
  • Tapestry needle (for sewing parts)

Muzzle

Lightly stuff and sew onto the head 14 rows above the MR.

Insert safety eyes:

  • Distance between pin markers: 8 sc
  • Distance between eyes: 5 sc

Embroider:

  • Eye whites with white yarn
  • Eyeliner and eyebrows with black thread
  • Mouth with Pekhorka Baby New – Exotic
  • Nostrils using French knots

Ears (Make 2)

Worked in rows, BLO only

  1. Ch 8, from 2nd ch: 7 sc, ch 1, turn
  2. 5 sc, ch 1, turn
  3. 5 sc, ch 1, turn
  4. 3 sc, ch 1, turn
  5. 3 sc

Pull yarn through first row to gather.
Sew ears 8 sc away from the eyebrows, aligned with the lower edge of the head.


Chest Patch

Worked in turned rows

  1. Ch 5, from 2nd ch: 4 sc, ch 1, turn

  3. 6 sc, ch 1, turn

Embroider diagonal stitches with lighter yarn.
Sew patch onto the belly.


Spikes (Make 6)

6 sc in MR, pull tight but do not close the ring fully.
Leave yarn for sewing.

Sew spikes starting 4 rows above the eyebrows, continuing down the head, body, and tail.
