How to Make Old-Fashioned Goulash
Step 1: Brown the Ground Beef
- In a large pot or Dutch oven, cook the ground beef over medium-high heat until browned. Drain any excess grease.
- Add the chopped onion, garlic, and bell pepper to the pot. Cook until the onion is translucent and the bell pepper softens, about 3-5 minutes.
Step 2: Add Liquids and Seasonings
- Stir in the tomato sauce, diced tomatoes, beef broth, and Worcestershire sauce. Mix well to combine.
- Add the Italian seasoning, smoked paprika (if using), salt, and pepper. Taste and adjust the seasonings as needed.
Step 3: Add Pasta
- Bring the mixture to a gentle boil, then stir in the uncooked elbow macaroni.
- Reduce the heat to medium-low and cover the pot. Let it simmer, stirring occasionally, for about 15-20 minutes, or until the pasta is tender and has absorbed most of the liquid.
